Lockerbie heeft me betrapt bij het testen van een aangepaste versie van de Twike, het modernste elektromobiel van Europa!
De Twike bestaat al sinds 1986. Versie I was een trapauto die door een paar Zwitserse studenten was gebouwd. De opvolger Twike II had een DC elektromotor en NiCd-accu’s en de Twike III een asynchroonmotor en NiMH-accu’s met een hoge spanning.
Voor de wet is het een “gewone” auto. De topsnelheid is 85km/u en de actieradius is 90-130 km.
Maar zoals ze in Brabant zeggen: “eerst zien, dan geleuven”. Vandaar de testrit, waarbij Lockerbie me wist te betrappen.
En… -gezien de enthousiast-snelle belettering- overweegt u inmiddels serieus een Twike-aanschaf?
Ook zonder Twike lukt het me vrij aardig om de medeweggebruikers de stuipen op het lijf te jagen.

Hij doet wel een beetjedenken aan de jammerlijk mislukte Sinclair C5
Mooie maar dure trapauto.
De liftauto blijft goedkoper.
PS: Afgelopen vijdag zag ik een heuse Twike in Arnhem rijden!

I use a Twike 3 in Wassenaar.
Essentially this minimalist car reduces your carbon footprint when commuting around and above 20km saving you from taking a shower or driving a heavier vehicle. Yeah, sorry Teslas and other car above 600kg for one person probably a higher carbon footprint and other side effects compared to 2 to 7kWh 85kph limited vehicle assisted with pedals. For the moment still registered in France a motorbike-tricycle-car hybrid, registration at the rear, I am considering lowering its registration to less than 30kph acceptable on NL fietspad (blue insurance sticker can be used without a driving licence).

NB: The Sinclair “C5” has not much to compare with a Twike “T3”. Not only T3 has been produced since 80’s and keep selling and service remains available, the “C5” ,may be considered a failure by some, it keeps the driver exposed to the weather conditions, you may just as well keep using a bicycle all year round to feel the difference. I tried.
